[News] Actress Kim Hye Ja Awarded As Best Actress Of The Year In Los Angeles, USA

Korean actress Kim Hye-ja, 69, was named the best actress of the year by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association for her role in "Mother." The film by director Bong Joon-ho was the runner-up for best foreign language film in the 36th annual LAFCA awards, announced Sunday.

It is the first time that a Korean actress has won the best actress prize since the LAFCA awards started in 1975. Chosen by film critics who contribute to the L.A.-based press, the awards are often considered a predictor for the Academy Awards along with Golden Globe Awards.

"Mother" is a story about a mother's search for a killer who framed her son for a horrific murder. After its premiere in Korea last year, it was released to glowing reviews in the U.S. this year.
