‘The Thieves’ set to open in China

After becoming a major box office hit in Korea last year, ‘The Thieves’ is set to premiere in China on January 15.

According to the film distributor, Showbox Mediaplex, the movie will be shown on over 3,000 theaters through the Chinese giant film group, Lava Film. The distributors had originally planned to release the movie in China in September, but a series of snags has delayed the premiere.

‘The Thieves’ will stand on near-even footing with the eagerly anticipated Chinese film ‘The Grandmasters,’ directed by Wong Kar-wai. And to further promote the movie, producers Choi Dong Hoon and Jeon Ji Hyun will be attending the premiere screening.

The film also opened in select theaters across the US last October and is also set to premiere in Japan, India, and Russia.

‘The Thieves’ becomes the most watched Korean film

The 2012’s hit movie ‘The Thieves’ has become the most watched Korean movie of all-time.

The distributor of the film, ShowBox Mediaplex, announced that ‘The Thieves’ has recorded 13,020,393 admissions, breaking the previous record of ‘The Host’ set in 2006, with 13,019,740 admissions in 106 days. ‘The Thieves’ broke the record only in 70 days.

It is said that ‘The Thieves’ has a great chance of breaking the all-time record of 13.3 million admissions set by international film ‘Avatar’.

Meanwhile, ‘The Thieves’ was recently introduced during Toronto International Film Festival, and it will be introduced during the 7th London Korean Film Festival and the 7th Paris Korean Film Festival. Furthermore, it will be released in America and Canada on October 12th.

‘The Thieves’ becomes #2 most successful movie in Korean film history

The 2012 hit movie ‘The Thieves’ has just broken another record.

According to the movie’s distributors, as of 5 PM on August 30th, ‘The Thieves’ had attracted about 12,310,000 people. This brings its total higher than the 12,302,831 that the movie ‘The King And The Clown’ brought in several years ago. Now the only movie between it and the #1 spot is ‘The Host’, which was the highest grossing Korean film to date, with 13,019,740 viewers.

‘The Thieves’ was able to reach the 12.31 million mark in just 37 days after its release, which was a day faster than the movie  ‘The Host’ .

The ultimate #2 highest grossing movie in Korea is about a group of 10 thieves from Korea and China, that are all after a very valuable diamond called "The Tear Of The Sun", held in a casino in Macau. The movie features an A-list cast of Kim Yoon Suk, Kim Hye Soo, Lee Jung Jae, Jun Ji Hyun, Kim Hye Sook, Oh Dal Soo, and Kim Soo Hyun.

Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hae Sook keep their promises


Actors Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hae Sook have come together to keep their word on a promise made with their fans.

Last month, Kim Soo Hyun made a public deal with his fans that if his movie ‘The Thieves’ hit 10 million viewers, he would give the lucky 10 millionth viewer a piggy back ride. On the other hand, Kim Hae Sook promised to give the 10 millionth viewer a kiss.

Hitting the target viewers in just 22 days, a special event was held on August 18th to celebrate the ‘10 Million Audience’ achievement of the movie ‘The Thieves’. A great number of audience and fans attended to celebrate the great achievement, and Kim Hae Sook and Kim Soo Hyun gladly met up with them.

At the event Kim Hae Sook expressed his thanks stating, “I was happy to cast in such an amazing movie, and I’d like to share the thanks from the bottom of my heart. Thank you again for coming in such a bad weather.”

Kim Soo Hyun also said, “I only dreamed of 10 million audiences, and I feel to thrilled to see that it became true.”

Afterwards, Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Hae Sook kept their pledges. A young middle school girl from the country was chosen to receive a piggy-back ride from Kim Soo Hyun. The fan who had come to the event with her parents burst into tears of happiness when her seat was called, while the actor kept comforting her with his humors.

A fan that was chosen for Kim Hae Sook’s kiss came up with a flower basket, and Kim Hae Sook expressed her thanks with a kiss on her cheek and a big hug.

Who will be the lucky one to get a piggyback from Kim Soo Hyun?


Last month, actor Kim Soo Hyun made a public deal with his fans that if his movie ‘The Thieves’ hit 10 million viewers, he would give the lucky 10 millionth viewer a piggy back ride. After the movie achieved the target viewers in just 22 days, people are paying attention how the actor will keep his pledge.

On August 16th, the publisher of movie , ShowBox, announced, “Kim Soo Hyun will carry one of the audience members on his back to keep his promise.” However, the company revealed that it will be nearly impossible to find the exact 10 millionth viewer, so instead they’ll be opening up an event where fans can send in proof shots of their tickets on the movie’s official Facebook page.

ShowBox posted on their official Facebook (www.facebook.com/Showbox.Movie) that they will choose 30 people randomly when the 10,000,000th ticket gets sold. The 30 people will be invited to the event, which will be held on August 18, and one person will be chosen for the piggyback.

“The Thieves” draws over 4 million moviegoers

Eight days after being released, “The Thieves” has set a box office record of more than four million viewers.

According to Film Council on August 2nd, “The Thieves” has gathered 506,683 moviegoers on August 1st alone with the last counted cumulative attendance at 4,365,090. The movie has set a new record for the shortest time to gather such number of moviegoers.

This is an equal record with 2006 Korean monster film “The Host” and 2011 Hollywood blockbuster “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon,” which both easily attracted over four million moviegoers in just eight days of opening here.

“Despite the fact that the Olympic Games is on, the film is steadily maintaining a top position,” said a spokesperson of the film, adding that “The Thieves” sold more than a million tickets over a two-day stretch.

“The Thieves” tells the story of a group of ten thieves from different backgrounds, who have teamed up to steal a hidden diamond inside a casino in Macao.

A really big fan of actor Kim Soo Hyun has forked more than 1 million won ($871) for a lighter available on Amazon.com for $120. Kim’s lighter from “The Thieves,” which opened Wednesday, was offered on Auction.co.kr from July 1 to Sunday.

The S.T. Dupont Maxijet Lighter in Midnight Blue managed to attract 77 bids; with the highest bidder taking the lighter used by Kim in his latest blockbuster movie.

A dress worn by Jeon Ji Hyun sold for 610,000 won. All proceeds from the sale of 10 movie items - a total of 2.5 million won -will go to a charity for children with leukemia.

According to the movie’s distributor, more than 436,628 people came to see the film about a group of jewelry thieves that set out to steal a one-of-a-kind diamond from a casino in Macau.

The movie is being described as Korean rendition of Hollywood blockbuster “Ocean’s Eleven” by critics and was produced on a budget of 14 billion won.

[NEWS] ‘The Thieves’ records 2nd biggest opening in Korea


The movie ‘The Thieves’ starring actors Kim Soo Hyun, Jeon Ji Hyun, Kim Hye Soo, and Lee Jung Jae, has recorded the second best opening in Korean film history.

According to Korean Film Council on the 26th, ‘The Thieves’ has record 436,622 moviegoers on the day of its release on Wednesday, July 25. It has taken the top spot from the movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, which has been reigning for five straight days.

‘The Thieves’ has achieved the best opening ever for a Korean movie. The previous record was set by the movie “The Host” in 2006, which opened with 449,500 tickets sold. The former no.2 is the movie ‘The War’ in 2007, which drew 387,468.

The action movie ‘The Thieves’ tells the story about a group of ten thieves from different backgrounds who have teamed up to steal a diamond hidden inside a casino located in Macao. The big-budget film is supposed to be the Korean version of “Oceans Eleven” and will feature several exotic locations and an all-star cast. The movie is directed by Choi Dong Hoon.

[NEWS] Kim Soo Hyun makes a deal with ‘The Thieves’ audience


Actor Kim Soo Hyun has made a deal with the public to wish for his movie ‘The Thieves’ to become a blockbuster.

On July 24th, at the red carpet event for the opening of movie ‘The Thieves, which was held at the Convention and Exhibition Center in Seoul, Kim Soo Hyun promised that he will watch the movie with the audience if the movie gets more than 10 million ticket sales.

MC Kim Bum Ryong prodded Kim Soo Hyun into making a promise with the public to ensure the movie’s success. The actor became a bit hesitant and slurred, “If over 10 million people watch it…”, not being able to finish his sentence.

To this, fellow co-star Kim Yoon Suk joked, “He will carry Jeon Ji Hyun on his back and march around the country.”

Kim Soo Hyun then said, “If more than 10 million people watch it, I will watch the movie carrying the 10 millionth person on my back,” and received cheer from the audience.

With only a month before its premiere, the official character posters for the upcoming crime heist movie ‘The Thieves’ have been revealed.

The film’s production company, SHOWBOX, released the character posters of actress Jeon Ji Hyun as “Enicall”, Kim Hye Soo as “Pepsee”, Lee Jung Jae as “Popie” and Kim Yoon Seok as “Macao Park”.

The new film ‘The Thieves’ released new trailer and the passionate kiss between actor Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun is getting the attention of fans.

Screenshots of the kiss scene were captured and put on online community boards and different social networking services. In the photos, the half-naked Kim Soo Hyun grabs the back of Jeon Ji Hyun and pulls in for a kiss.

The official international poster for the upcoming film "The Thieves" has been released!

On March 19th, production company, Showbox, revealed the poster of "The Thieves" on their Facebook page. The poster features the 9 dazzling cast as they walk down an alleyway. Eyes were immediately drawn to Kim Soo Hyun and Jeon Ji Hyun, who had her arms around him. Kim Soo Hyun's muscular arms and Jeon Ji Hyun's long and lean legs catches the eye.

Also known as "The Professionals", the new heist movie will be hitting theaters this summer.
